With lost orders comes challenges for F-35 motor maker

Pratt and Whitney, the maker of the F-35 jet engine, tries to keep a smile on their face.

However, with so many lost F-35 orders, the price of an F-35 jet engine won't be what was hoped for years ago.

Wishful thinking may also help some. Until reality hits.

He points out that total volumes over the life of the F-35 program have not been reduced, just stretched over a longer timeframe. “I think this will be like the F100 program [the engine that powers F-15 and F-16 fighters], which is now in its 40th year of production.”
